The low-carbon austenitic stainless steel alloy known as Stainless Steel 317L Channel has a maximum carbon content of 0.03%, along with roughly 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, and 3–4% molybdenum. Superior corrosion resistance is provided by this composition, particularly in environments that are acidic and chloride-rich. The alloy offers outstanding elongation and toughness, as well as a tensile strength of about 515 MPa and a yield strength of about 205 MPa. Because of its exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and intergranular attack, as well as its ability to retain its structural integrity at high temperatures, SS 317L is appropriate for welding and fabrication under harsh chemical conditions.

Applications requiring strength, weldability, and resistance to chemical attack in highly corrosive environments are best suited for stainless steel 317L channels. Chemical and petrochemical processing facilities, pulp and paper mills, food and beverage manufacturing facilities, pharmaceutical equipment, and marine environments all make extensive use of these channels.
