A low-carbon variant of stainless steel 304, stainless steel 304L has a maximum carbon content of 0.03% and contains 18–20% chromium and 8–12% nickel. Because there is less chance of carbide precipitation during welding, welded structures are more resistant to corrosion. SS 304L channels have outstanding ductility, weldability, and toughness in addition to a tensile strength of 485–620 MPa.
