In chloride-rich environments, the composition of stainless steel 316 foils—16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum—improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Additionally, the alloy has a maximum carbon content of 0.08%, which promotes good formability and weldability. With an elongation of up to 40%, SS 316 foils have a yield strength of 205 MPa and a tensile strength of about 515 MPa. The material is appropriate for applications requiring both corrosion resistance and structural integrity under demanding conditions because it retains excellent mechanical properties even at high temperatures.
