The main component of Stainless Steel 405, a ferritic stainless steel alloy, is chromium (11.5–14.5%), with a minimum carbon content of 0.08% to improve weldability. Additionally, it includes silicon (1%), manganese (1%), and trace amounts of aluminium for enhanced resistance to oxidation. With a tensile strength of approximately 380–550 MPa and good ductility, SS 405 provides moderate strength. It is made to be easier to machine and less likely to harden when being welded. Because of its stable ferritic structure, it works well in mild environments and high-temperature applications even though it is not as corrosion-resistant as austenitic grades.
