Commercially pure zirconium (grades like Zr702) with a zirconium content of over 99.2% and trace amounts of iron, oxygen, and hafnium (up to 4.5%) are commonly used to make zirconium sheets and plates. They provide outstanding resistance to corrosion, especially in hot and acidic conditions. Zirconium exhibits exceptional ductility and elongation qualities, as well as a tensile strength of about 330 MPa and a yield strength of about 215 MPa. It is perfect for high-stress, critical applications in harsh environments because of its low neutron absorption and high melting point of 1855°C.
