Aluminium 2024 is an alloy of high strength containing chiefly 3.8–4.9% copper, 1.2–1.8% magnesium, and 0.3–0.9% manganese, with the rest aluminium. It is heat-treatable and has excellent fatigue life and high tensile strength, ranging usually between 400–490 MPa, and with a yield strength of about 270–410 MPa depending on temper (most frequently T3 or T351). Even though it is less corrosion-resistant than other grades, it has better machinability and is usually clad with pure aluminium for enhanced corrosion performance. Aluminium 2024 exhibits stability as well as strength in extreme stress-high temperature conditions.
