AR 500 steel is composed of carbon (0.30–0.50%) and manganese (0.70–1.60%), along with trace amounts of chromium, nickel, boron, and molybdenum to boost its hardness and toughness. This steel boasts a Brinell Hardness Number (BHN) of about 480–540 and a tensile strength of around 1300 MPa. Its impressive hardness is achieved through quenching and tempering processes. While AR 500 excels in wear resistance and strength, it has limited formability and isn’t the best choice for extensive welding. It truly shines in impact-heavy environments, providing outstanding resistance to abrasion and penetration under extreme conditions.
