Aluminium 6063 is a magnesium-silicon alloy of aluminium, generally containing 0.6% magnesium and 0.4% silicon with the balance being aluminium. It is renowned for having great extrudability, resistance to corrosion, and having a fine surface finish, and thus it is suitable for architectural usage. The alloy is heat treatable and tensile strengths of 145–240 MPa and yield strengths of 90–200 MPa are achieved based on temper (e.g., T5, T6). It has good weldability, moderate strength, and high resistance to corrosion in both interior and exterior conditions. These characteristics make 6063 channels an excellent choice for various structural applications.
