The main constituents of stainless steel 201, an austenitic alloy, are 16–18% chromium, 3.5–5.5% nickel, and 5.5–7.5% manganese, with a maximum carbon content of 0.15%. It is more cost-effective because of the higher manganese content, which also increases strength and hardness while lowering dependency on nickel. SS 201 foils have outstanding ductility and a good tensile strength between 520 and 750 MPa. It works well in mildly corrosive environments, despite having a slightly lower corrosion resistance than stainless steels from the 300 series. Additionally, it has good formability and weldability, making it appropriate for thin foil applications that call for moderate strength and resistance to corrosion.
