ASME SA 387 Grade 5 steel contains 4.0–6.0% chromium and 0.45–0.65% molybdenum, along with carefully controlled amounts of carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur. The Class 1 plates deliver a minimum yield strength of 275 MPa and a tensile strength ranging from 415 to 585 MPa. On the other hand, Class 2 plates provide a higher yield strength of 310 MPa and tensile strength between 450 and 620 MPa. Both classes undergo heat treatment through normalizing and tempering, which boosts their creep resistance, thermal stability, and overall mechanical integrity, especially in high-temperature environments.
