The composition of Corten A/B steel sheets and plates is 0.12–0.2% carbon, 0.3% silicon, 0.5–1.25% manganese, and 0.2–0.4% phosphorus. For increased strength, Corten B steel usually contains more manganese and phosphorus. When exposed to the atmosphere, these steels form a self-protective oxide layer that stops additional corrosion. They have an elongation of up to 22%, a yield strength of about 355 MPa, and a tensile strength of 470–700 MPa.
