The balanced microstructure of austenite and ferrite in duplex steel sheets and plates improves their mechanical and corrosion-resistant qualities. For added strength and resistance, the alloy usually contains 22–25% chromium, 4–6% nickel, 3–4% molybdenum, and nitrogen. These materials have yield strength of about 450 MPa and tensile strength of 620–850 MPa, which is roughly double that of traditional stainless steels. The duplex structure is perfect for demanding applications in harsh environments because it offers exceptional toughness, ductility, and superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.
