The main constituents of Mu Metal Foil, a nickel–iron soft magnetic alloy, are roughly 77% nickel, 16% iron, 5% copper, and 2% molybdenum. Its low coercivity and extremely high magnetic permeability are due to its particular composition. Since heat treatment cannot harden the foil, it is frequently annealed in a hydrogen atmosphere to obtain the best magnetic qualities. It is easily formed into shields and enclosures due to its good ductility and tensile strength of roughly 500–600 MPa.
