The carbon-manganese-silicon steel alloy SA537 Class 1 is mostly utilized in high-temperature and pressure vessel settings. It is composed of silicon (0.15–0.50%), manganese (0.60–0.90%), carbon (0.20–0.24%), and trace amounts of nickel and chromium to increase strength. Additionally, it contains regulated amounts of sulfur (≤0.035%) and phosphorus (≤0.035%). With a tensile strength of 485–655 MPa, yield strength of 275 MPa, and elongation of 20% over 200 mm, this normalized steel improves mechanical qualities. Tempering : Notch toughness can be improved by quenched cooling from hot rolling or normalizing by the supplier. If such a faster cooling rate is agreed upon between purchaser and supplier then the steel is also to be tempered at 1200 F.
