By using heat treatment to produce precipitation hardening, this alloy greatly increases its strength and hardness. It has a hardness that varies from 28 to 40 HRC depending on the condition, a tensile strength of roughly 1100–1300 MPa, a yield strength of 1000–1100 MPa, and an elongation of 10–15%. Because of these characteristics, 17-4 PH is perfect for applications where mechanical performance cannot be sacrificed due to high stress and corrosion.
