The main constituents of SS 17-7 PH (UNS S17700), a precipitation-hardened stainless steel alloy, are 17% chromium, 7% nickel, and trace amounts of carbon, silicon, and phosphorus. Other minor elements include 1% aluminum and 1% manganese. In its hardened state, the alloy has a yield strength of 1,100 MPa (160 ksi) and a tensile strength of up to 1,300 MPa (190 ksi). It is suitable for demanding, high-performance applications due to its exceptional fatigue resistance, stress-corrosion resistance, and Rockwell hardness of C45, which allows it to tolerate temperatures up to 480°C (900°F) after aging.
