Stainless Steel 201 is an austenitic alloy with up to 0.15% carbon and 16–18% chromium, 3.5–5.5% nickel, and 5.5–7.5% manganese. It is a robust yet affordable substitute for 300-series stainless steels due to its high manganese content, which improves hardness and tensile strength. SS 201 channels provide good formability and weldability along with a tensile strength of 520–750 MPa. It works well in mild environments, despite having less corrosion resistance than SS 304. Because of these characteristics, it can be used in structural applications where cost effectiveness and strength are crucial.
