About 16–18% chromium and 6–8% nickel make up stainless steel 301. This austenitic steel is metastable and has a high rate of work-hardening. When annealed, it has a tensile strength of up to 680 MPa and a yield strength of 275 MPa; these values rise dramatically with cold working. After cold working, the material turns magnetic after being non-magnetic during annealing. SS 301 is perfect for structural and mechanical applications because it has good ductility, moderate corrosion resistance, and exceptional strength after deformation.
