A high-carbon variant of stainless steel 304, 304H has a carbon content of 0.04–0.10%, 18–20% chromium, and 8–11% nickel. Better creep resistance and higher high-temperature strength are provided by the higher carbon content. Even at higher temperatures, SS 304H angles exhibit exceptional toughness and a tensile strength of 515–740 MPa. In oxidising environments, this alloy also retains good corrosion resistance and weldability. When annealed, it is non-magnetic and works consistently in applications requiring both mechanical strength and thermal stability under pressure.
