A low-carbon variant of stainless steel 304, stainless steel 304L has a maximum carbon content of 0.03%, 18–20% chromium, and 8–12% nickel. The decreased carbon content improves corrosion resistance, particularly in welded components, by preventing carbide precipitation during welding. With exceptional ductility and toughness, SS 304L foils have a tensile strength of 485–620 MPa and a yield strength of 170–240 MPa. The alloy is appropriate for deep drawing and fabrication because it is non-magnetic when annealed and has good formability. It operates dependably in conditions with low to moderately high temperatures.
