A low-carbon version of 304 stainless steel, 304L sheets and plates have 18–20% chromium and 8–12% nickel. Weldability is improved and carbide precipitation is reduced due to the lower carbon content. Excellent ductility and formability are among its mechanical attributes, along with a tensile strength of 485 MPa and a yield strength of 170 MPa.
