About 22–24% chromium and 12–15% nickel make up stainless steel 309H sheets and plates. A higher carbon content (0.04–0.10%) improves creep resistance and high-temperature strength. Up to 1000°C, this austenitic stainless steel provides exceptional resistance to oxidation. Its elongation is approximately 40%, its yield strength is 205 MPa, and its tensile strength is approximately 550 MPa. Because of its increased strength and resistance to corrosion under high service conditions, SS 309H is appropriate for equipment that is subjected to pressure and high temperatures while maintaining structural integrity in thermal cycling environments.
