Stainless steel 316L is an austenitic alloy with a low carbon content (maximum 0.03%), composed of 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum. While the low carbon reduces carbide precipitation during welding, the molybdenum improves corrosion resistance, particularly against chlorides and acidic environments. SS 316L angles have outstanding ductility, weldability, and toughness in addition to a tensile strength of 485–620 MPa. This alloy is appropriate for crucial structural applications because it functions well at both high and low temperatures.
