Stainless Steel 317 has around 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, and 3–4% molybdenum, giving it superior corrosion resistance and the ability to operate in harsh conditions compared to other alloys. It has around 515 MPa of tensile strength and a yield strength of 205 MPa, as well as providing good elongation and excellent formability. Stainless Steel 317 retains strength and elongation in high-temperature service. The increase in molybdenum content over SS 316 provides better pitting and crevice corrosion resistance, perfect for any work of harsh conditions for chemicals, acids, and chlorides, in which other grades will not survive.
