Stainless Steel 317L is an austenitic stainless steel alloy that contains molybdenum and is low in carbon. It is made up of 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, 3-4% molybdenum, and up to 0.03% carbon. It provides exceptional resistance to corrosion, particularly in acidic and chloride-containing environments. The alloy has good elongation and formability, a yield strength of about 205 MPa, and a tensile strength of about 515 MPa. Its low carbon content improves its resistance to intergranular corrosion by reducing carbide precipitation during welding. Because of these mechanical properties, 317L angles are ideal for demanding and hot operating environments.
