The main constituents of stainless steel 405 Angle are iron and chromium (11.5–14.5%), with trace amounts of aluminium added to improve resistance to oxidation and a low carbon content (≤0.08%). It provides good resistance to oxidation and corrosion, as well as moderate strength, especially in mildly corrosive environments. The material is highly machinable and weldable, with a yield strength of about 205 MPa and a tensile strength of about 450 MPa. SS 405 is appropriate for high-temperature applications without sacrificing structural integrity because of its ferritic structure, which exhibits low thermal expansion and high thermal conductivity.
