A low-carbon, non-hardening variation of stainless steel 410 is called stainless steel 410S. Its composition usually contains reduced carbon content (maximum 0.08%) and 11.5–13.5% chromium, which enhances weldability and lowers the possibility of hardening after welding. Up to 650°C, SS 410S provides good resistance to corrosion and oxidation. A yield strength of about 275 MPa and a tensile strength of 450–650 MPa are typical mechanical characteristics. Because of its enhanced ductility and moderate hardness, it can be used in forming and fabrication procedures without losing structural integrity when heated.
