The austenitic alloy known as stainless steel 904L is made up of 19–23% chromium, 23–28% nickel, 4-5 percent molybdenum, and trace amounts of carbon and copper (less than 0.02%). Tensile strength ranges from 490 to 710 MPa, yield strength is 220 MPa (min), and elongation is 35%. In addition to its exceptional formability and weldability, SS 904L has exceptional resistance to pitting, stress corrosion cracking, and crevice corrosion, particularly in harsh acidic environments. It is appropriate for demanding industrial and chemical applications due to its non-magnetic nature and high durability.
