SS 904L is a low-carbon, high-alloy austenitic stainless steel containing approximately 19–23% chromium, 23–28% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, and 1–2% copper. This composition provides excellent resistance to pitting, stress corrosion cracking, and crevice corrosion. It has a tensile strength of about 490–710 MPa and a yield strength around 220 MPa, with good elongation (≥ 35%). SS 904L also maintains good formability and weldability. Its low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, making it suitable for severe corrosive conditions, especially in chloride or sulfuric acid-rich environments.
